Gonorrhea As One Of The Causes Of Vaginal Discharge

Gonorrhea is another common cause of vaginal discharge in women of reproductive ages. Gonorrhea is sexually transmitted disease and when contracted could lead to copious vaginal discharge.

The following may be experienced by a woman who is having gonorrhea for the first time

1. Copious or heavy vaginal discharge

2. Fever that is always on morning and evening

3. Pains during passage of urine.

4. There may be swelling of lymph nodes in the groins.

5. Severe pain will be experienced during love making by the infected girl. Such a girl must see her doctor for adequate treatment.

Other common causes of  vaginal discharge are:

1. Trichomonas Vaginalis.

Trichomonas Vaginalis is another cause of vaginal discharge

a. The discharge here is greenish

b.Foamy

c.It is itchy

d. The discharge is heavy ( copious)

e. During ovulation, vaginal discharge is increased.

f.  Blood stained discharge.

If this continues for a long time, the patient must see a gynecologist for proper investigation.

2. Prolonged Antibiotics intake

The vagina has two organisms
(a) Lacto bacillus which produces lactic acid)
(b) fungi: These two compete strongly for food.

But when one is placed on antibiotics for a long period, the Lacto bacillus is eliminated from the vagina. This allows the vagina a non competitive environment to thrive hence the onset of copious vaginal discharge.

3. Intra uterine contraceptive device
This can also lead to copious vaginal discharge.

4. Use of Oral contraceptives or pills
